Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen presented medals to former Premier Lin Chuan and other members of the previous Cabinet on Friday for their contributions to Taiwan.

Tsai awarded Lin Chuan with the Order of the Propitious Clouds, 1st class, for serving as the premier under her administration from May 2016 to September 2017.

The president also presented former Vice Premier Lin Hsi-yao with the Order of Brilliant Star, 1st class, and former secretary-general of the Cabinet Chen Mei-ling with the Order of the Brilliant Star, 2nd class.

Lin Chuan, who is the 43rd person to have received the honor, thanked his colleagues at the Cabinet, his family and friends, and his teachers who have all allowed him to put to work what he has learned over the years.

Both Lin Hsi-yao and Chen expressed their deep respect for the former premier.

The former secretary-general of the Cabinet said Lin Chuan has successfully laid a foundation on which the new Cabinet team will continue to work to achieve the president's blueprint for the country.

Chen, who is now heading the National Development Council, said she hopes Lin Chuan and Lin Hsi-yao will continue to give her pointers in her new position.
