Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) The Ministry of Culture inaugurated the Mongolian and Tibetan Cultural Center Friday to take over the task of promoting and preserving Mongolian and Tibetan cultures from the now disbanded Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission.

The commission was disbanded last month as part of a government restructuring plan, and its tasks and budgets were distributed among the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mainland Affairs Council.

The Mongolian and Tibetan Cultural Center, which was inaugurated Friday at the original location of the commission, is headed by Hsu Kuei-hsiang, who served as chief secretary of the disbanded commission.

The center will continue to promote and preserve Mongolian and Tibetan cultures, supervise Mongolian and Tibetan cultural foundations, organize exhibitions, preserve historical documents and artifacts, and train talent in the field, according to the Ministry of Culture.

Culture Minister Cheng Li-chiun noted that the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission was a government agency with close to 89 years of history.

Its long-term dedication to letting Mongolian and Tibetan cultures take root in Taiwan has enriched Taiwan's culture and illustrated the diversity and inclusiveness of Taiwanese culture, Cheng said.
