Taipei, Sept. 16 (CNA) Taiwan signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Poland on Thursday to improve the monitoring of good laboratory practices (GLP), according to a statement from the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI).

The Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF), entrusted by the BSMI to promote collaborations with foreign nations, signed the MOU with Poland's Bureau for Chemical Substances to begin exchanges on technology and talent development related to GLP controls.

According to the BSMI, the move will take Taiwan's GLP compliance monitoring system to a new level and marks a new chapter in the country's collaboration with Poland and other European countries in the field.

The signing of the MOU will not only further the relationship between the two countries but also improve both sides' technology for monitoring tests of chemicals and chemical products, BSMI Director-General Liu Ming-jong said.

Taiwan has previously signed agreements with the U.S.'s Environmental Protection Agency and internationally recognized organizations in New Zealand to promote exchanges in the field.

TAF follows the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) GLP principles, which require all companies certified under the OECD GLP standard to pass a number of tests that ensure the quality and validity of data generated in the testing of chemicals and prevent fraudulent practices.

Currently, there are 23 testing organizations in Taiwan that have received OECD GLP certification by the TAF.
