Taipei, Sept. 18 (CNA) The Executive Yuan will propose amendments to the much-criticized 40-hour-workweek rules after an interpellation session that typically adjourns at the end of October.

Cabinet spokesman Hsu Kuo-yung noted Monday after a meeting between the Executive and Legislative yuans that a finalized draft of the revision to the workweek regulations will be released after Premier Lai Ching-te has heard the opinions of legislators during the interpellation session, set to begin Sept. 22.

The amendments, which are a priority for the Executive Yuan, will deal with work hours, special holidays, overtime wages, and other issues that the public cares deeply about, Hsu said.

Earlier in the day, Lai stated that the Executive Yuan will adopt its stance on the workweek regulations and will propose its amendments after hearing from legislators.

Given that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) enjoys a majority in the Legislature, Lai said he feels no pressure working with the Legislative Yuan on the proposed revisions.

According to a local online job bank survey published that same day, 60 percent of surveyed employers support revisions to the new and much more rigid workweek rules, for which former Premier Lin Chuan was widely criticized by employers, workers and local governments.
