Taipei, Sept. 19 (CNA) Premier Lai Ching-te has outlined his administration guidelines and is scheduled to brief lawmakers at the Legislative Yuan Friday.
The written report of administration guidelines was delivered to the Legislature Tuesday.
In the report, Lai sets out two administration goals -- improving people's livelihoods and the economy, and promoting tax, pension, judicial and transitional justice reforms.
Lai formulated a raft of guidelines for his team to achieve these goals.
The guidelines include promoting the implementation of the government's Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Plan, maintaining a stable electricity supply, building a low-carbon living environment that uses green energy, and developing new and renewable energy resources.
Other goals are optimizing the tax system, seeking a healthy capital market, reinforcing rail transport systems and services, and building the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport into a transport hub for East Asia.
The administration directions set by Lai are not very different from those of his predecessor, Lin Chuan, who resigned in early September after just over a year in office.
Lai, a former Tainan mayor, was named by President Tsai Ing-wen Sept. 5 as the new premier.
Announcing Lai's appointment, Tsai stated that the focus of the incoming administration will switch from "planning" to "execution."
She also outlined key tasks for the new premier, with particular focus on the continued implementation of the "Five Plus Two Transformation Plan" -- referring to five "pillar industries" -- the Internet of Things, biotech, green energy, smart machinery and defense -- plus high-value agriculture and the circular economy.
