Taipei, Jan. 23 (CNA) Taiwan's central bank Governor Perng Fai-nan was awarded the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award by an international banking publication Monday.
The Lifetime Award, issued by United Kingdom-based Central Banking Publications, recognizes exceptional leaders whose pioneering work in central banking and whose careers in public service have left an indelible mark on the central banking community, according to a press release by the bank that day.
Previous recipients of the award include Donald Kohn, former vice chairman of the Federal Reserve System in the United States, and Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former central bank governor of Malaysia, the release said.
Founded in 1990, Central Banking Publications is a financial publisher that specializes in public policy and financial markets, with emphasis on central banks, international financial institutions and financial market infrastructure and regulation.
The Lifetime Award, which is a part of the publication's annual Central Banking Awards, was launched in 2014 to recognize outstanding performance by individuals and organizations within the central banking community. The awards are judged by the firm's editorial team and an independent advisory board.
Other awards include Governor of the Year, Reserve Manager of the Year, Economics in Central Banking, and Technology Consultant of the Year.
Perng, who is known for his tough stance against currency speculation and for keeping a firm grip on Taiwan's exchange rate, has been the country's central banker since February 1998.
His term as central bank governor will end on Feb. 25.
