Taipei, Jan. 23 (CNA) The 2018 Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) will kick off Feb. 6, including various exhibitions featuring augmented reality.

The 2018 TIBE, which is themed "Age of Reading," will run through Feb. 11 at Taipei World Trade Center Halls 1 and 3, is also scheduled to host five large book-related forums and over 500 reading sessions and activities.

Chao Cheng-ming, Taipei Book Fair Foundation chairman, said visitors that check-in on social media while at the fair will have a chance to receive limited edition booklets, which will be different on every day of the exhibition.

This year a joint collaboration between Gaea Books, the Academia Sinica Center for Digital Cultures, ASUSTek Computer Inc. and Puppetmotion Entertainment has developed an AR exhibition of glove puppets to allow visitors to jump into the story and experience the plot.

AR technology will also be used to reproduce and recreate scenes of Taipei in 1935 to tell the story of Taiwan's exports of tea to Europe.

Meanwhile, the story of Pili, a popular Taiwanese glove puppet show, will recreate scenes of Taiwan in the 17th century, when the island was colonized by the Dutch.

In addition, a French pavilion will exhibit 11 French digital works and three Taiwanese works to allow readers an interactive new reading experience.

Foreign exhibitors will come from places including Israel, Brazil, Ukraine, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
