Taipei, Feb. 21 (CNA) Taiwan-based Acer Inc., one of the world's largest personal computer vendors, is optimistic about rich rewards from the infrastructure construction market in the Philippines in the near future, the company's chairman and CEO said Wednesday.

Jason Chen said he learned from recent conversations with the Philippine minister of finance, Carlos Dominguez, that the Southeast Asian country will raise its infrastructure construction budget from the existing 2.6 percent of the domestic gross product to 4 percent or even 5 percent.

"It means that the Philippines will put more investment into infrastructure construction," Chen told the press after hosting a back-to-work greeting gathering at Acer's headquarters in New Taipei.

Wednesday was the first work day after the Feb. 15-20 Lunar New Year holiday.

While Acer is the biggest trader in the Philippines' computer market, Chen said he expects the company will also "score a good record" in the infrastructure construction area.

Meanwhile that day, Acer also inaugurated an experience center, located on the ground floor of its headquarters.

The new facility, transformed from a product display center, offers consumers a comfortable space to check out Acer products, including its gaming PCs under the Predator sub-brand.

Acer was ranked as the sixth-largest PC vendor in the world in 2017, with a 6.5 percent share of the global market, according to market information advisory firm Gartner.
