總統馬英九以及行政院長劉兆玄，週六主持國道6號的通車典禮，國道6號連接中台灣的台中縣霧峰以及南投縣埔裡。

這條全長37.6公里的新國道，結合了高科技以及環保建材、技術，對此馬總統讚譽有加，並表示新國道將有助於提升南投縣的觀光業和農業。
As the only land-locked county in Taiwan, Nantou will undoubtedly play a prominent role in Taiwan's tourism industry and in other sectors thanks to the new freeway, the president said.
總統說，南投縣是全台灣唯一一個不靠海的縣市，現在多虧有了這條新路，未來南投在全台灣的觀光業以及其他各產業方面，肯定將扮演重要的角色。

The construction of National Freeway No. 6 started in 2004, with a budget of NT$37.6 billion (US$1.11 billion).
國道6號的興建工程始於民國93年，總共花費新台幣376億元。
