Wilson Yang becomes a renowned weight loss doctor in Taiwan. 緬甸僑生楊名權 成台灣減肥名醫

Wilson Yang, a famous weight loss doctor in Taiwan, is an overseas Chinese from Myanmar who made the decision to come to Taiwan to study after hearing many of his seniors in school had come to pursue higher education.

台灣知名減肥名醫楊名權,是來自緬甸的僑生,他在國中時聽說很多學長姊到台灣唸書,那時他就立定志向要到台灣繼續深造。

Yang was attending Taipei Municipal Jianguo High School by night and working as a security guard by day, for he was only allowed to attend the evening division based on policy at that time. He remembered that he was under huge amount of pressure adjusting himself to the new enviornment. Besides the time spent on sleeping and showers, any spare moment was spent studying. He did not even take the five-minute break between classes. Later, he was successfully admitted into the college of medicine in Taiwan National University. Upon graduation, Yang started his journey as a resident physician, and his stress level only increased having to work for non-stop seventy-two hours at times. Although he was catching up on sleep whenever possible, he eventually developed stress eating habits, which contributed to his weight reach to more than 220 pounds.

楊名權剛到台灣時,政策規定只能唸高中的夜間部,他晚上在建中夜間部上課,白天就打工當大樓管理員,他回憶當時,環境、心態都改變很大,除了睡覺、上廁所、洗澡以外,他只有拚命唸書,連下課短短5分鐘也不例外,後來他如願考上台大醫學系,畢業後到醫院當住院醫師,有時連續值班72小時,壓力非常大,空檔不是抓緊時間睡覺,不然就是吃東西,為了紓解壓力吃得很多,一度胖到100多公斤。

As a doctor, Yang sometimes needed to guide his patients with diabetes and high blood pressure to diet, but he could not be as convincing as he was suffering from weight problems himself. His decision to lose weight came when his health exam showed more alarming results than his father’s who is more than thirty years older. Once he successfully lost the weight, he published two books on healthy weight loss to share his experience and challenges during the process. Yang later opened a clinic and expanded services to include plastic surgery, cosmetic surgery and liposuction, as well as hair loss treatment and hair implants, by inviting other doctors to join forces. He even started his own biotechnology company.

身為一名醫生,胖胖的楊名權有時苦勸高血壓或糖尿病的病患要減肥,自己也覺得很沒說服力,有次他跟父親一起做健康檢查,他的報告出現的紅字竟然比大他30多歲的父親還要多很多,那時他就決定要減肥,減肥成功後,他出來開業,又把心路歷程寫成2本健康減重的書,還找其他醫生加入團隊,服務項目擴大及醫學美容、微整形、整形、雷射融脂、抽脂等,還有植髮、生髮,後來還開辦生技公司.

Dr. Yang started his career wanting to focus on medical research, but his career path was redirected due to his personal health issue, and has now become the president of multiple medical clinics.

如今已是台灣多家醫美中心院長的楊名權說,他一開始只想走單純的學術路線,沒想過要創業,結果因為一份健檢報告,讓他踏上減肥之路,也開啟了創業契機。

As a Burmese Chinese, Dr. Yang cares about the overseas Chinese students. In addition to his donation to the scholarship fund, he makes sure to participate in career planning seminars and share his story. He stresses that people should be grateful, and always follow these six steps whether in school, work or daily life. Step 1: Always be learning; step 2: Think independently; step 3: Analyze carefully; step 4: Absorb new knowledge; step 5: Apply acquired knowledge; step 6: Resolve problems. His advice to the overseas Chinese students is to plan and confirm life goal regardless of any profession we want to pursue, and he encourages all the students to apply what they learn in a way that benefits the public.

緬甸僑生出身的楊名權十分關懷僑生,除了捐助僑生獎學金、參與僑委會所舉辦的僑生畢業職涯規劃研習會以外,他也常以自身經歷給僑生建議,他說,一定要有「感恩」的心,另外,不管是做人處事、做學問、做事,都要從6大方向思考:養成學習的態度,也就是時時保持「活到老學到老的精神」;其次要擁有獨立思考的能力;經過消化與分析之後;吸收內化成自己的東西;再應用到做人處事方面;發現問題後,才能真正解決問題。他建議僑生同學,不管未來想做什麼,都要先確立並規劃好自己的目標,將來也要活用所學,嘉惠所有的人。
