While Taiwan has always been enriched with all kinds of technical and vocational education, over 90% of the Taiwanese contestants receiving international awards are from technical and vocational schools. In the 42nd WorldSkills Competition held in this June, the 44 Taiwanese contestants have conquered more than thousands of international competitors from 53 countries, and have won 6 gold medals, 4 silver medals, 8 bronze medals and 13 championships in total, which broke Taiwan’s record in the past 15 years, and showed the world Taiwan’s success in technical and vocational education.
台灣的技職教育百家爭鳴，在國際競賽中獲獎的台灣之光9成以上都是來自技職校院的學生。一如6月在「第42屆國際技能競賽」中，勇戰53個國家地區逾千位選手的44位台灣學子，以一身絕技奪得6金4銀8銅13優勝的佳績，不僅總獎牌數創下近15年來的最佳紀錄，更讓世界共同見證台灣技職教育的成功。
WorldSkills Competition was first raised by Spain in 1950 by the organization WorldSkills International that included 67 member countries. Every two years the competition would be held in different member countries, in which youth under the age of 22 could compete by choosing their particular skills from the 46 skills listed among 6 main sections. The R.O.C. Government officially joined the organization in 1970 and hosted for the 32nd WorldSkills Competition in 1993.
「國際技能競賽」1950年由西班牙發起舉辦，主辦的「國際技能競賽組織」（World Skills International）共有67個國家地區會員，競賽每2年在不同會員國舉辦，6大類別46個項目的參賽者為22歲以下的青年。中華民國在1970年加入組織參賽，並曾在1993年主辦第32屆活動。
As the 42nd WorldSkills Competition was held in Leipzig this June, Pan Shih-wei, the Minister of the Council of Labor Affairs under the Executive Yuan, led the representative group of the R.O.C. to join the competition. 44 students from technical and vocational teaching institutions in Taiwan have totally challenged 39 skill competitions and, became the representative with most members. On the other hand, all competing countries released their special exhibitions during the contest, in which the Minister Pan and the R.O.C. representative in Germany Chen Hwa-yu opened up the Taiwan Pavilion together.
今年的第42屆國際技能競賽6月在德國萊比錫舉辦，中華民國代表團由行政院勞工委員會主任委員潘世偉領隊，44位來自全台技職院校及高職的學生共挑戰39個項目，是參賽人數最多的代表團之一。另外，會員國也在競賽期間推出特展，潘主委及駐德代表陳華玉也共同為台灣展館揭幕。
While the excellent contestants from Taiwan have already obtained splendid scores in national skills contests, for all of them, this was the first time to attend international competitions. They have been trained in the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training under the Council of Labor Affairs for one year before the competition. During the 4 days of the competition, the group members had to continually work 20 hours and to explain their achievement in English under the pressure of being watched by enormous audiences. As it turned out, Taiwan has achieved great success in the scores: The team has gained the third place in team score, second only to South Korea and Switzerland.
這些在全國技能競賽脫穎而出的台灣選手首次參與這項國際競賽，賽前並在勞委會職訓中心集訓1年。4天賽事中，選手密集工作20多小時，並在大批觀眾現場參觀壓力下，全程以英語解說自己的成果。最後台灣奪得亮眼佳績，團隊成績名列第三，僅次南韓與瑞士。
Being one of the seven executive directors of World Skills International, also the vice-chairman of World Skills International, the Director-General Lin San-quei of the Bureau of Employment and Vocational Training under the Council of Labor Affairs considers that what the international employment lacks now are no longer the certifications but the practical skills. This also corresponds to what President Ma Ying-jeou has indicated, that technical and vocational education is the important power for the development of Taiwan. The extraordinary contestants from Taiwan will not only welcome a more promising future in the world market but also lead Taiwan to a more prosperous opportunity in economy.
身為「國際技能競賽組織」7名常務理事之一，也是參與決策的策略委員會副主席的勞委會職業訓練局局長林三貴認為從目前國際就業環境來看，缺乏的不是文憑，而是技能。這正呼應總統馬英九所說，技職教育是國家發展的重要助力。這群技冠群倫的台灣技職院校學生在世界舞台走出自己人生道路的同時，也帶領台灣走向下一個經濟榮景。
