Chong Sin Woon, Deputy Minister of Education of Malaysia, led a 10-strong delegation to Taiwan January 10-16, paying a visit to the Overseas Community Affairs Council(OCAC) on January 11th where he exchanged opinions with OCAC Deputy Minister Hsin Shih-chang.

Chong said that many Malaysian Chinese come to Taiwan for further study and the Overseas Youth Vocational Training School is an important study channel; He thanked Taiwan for training human resources for Malaysia and the OCAC for taking care of the students when they are in Taiwan.

He pointed out that Taiwan’s works of literature and documentaries show the high level of cultural literacy of people in Taiwan; for example the book Big River, Big Sea — Untold Stories of 1949 by former Minister of Culture Lung Ying-tai has many profoundly moving descriptions. He said that Malaysia’s Chinese also have many touching stories that need to be better understood.

Hsin suggested that high schools in Malaysia and Taiwan twin with each other and that the two countries establish a cooperation group to facilitate in-depth cooperation with regard to various issues.
