Taipei, Nov. 16 (CNA) Students from Taiwan won a total of seven medals at the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Primary Schools (IMSO) 2016 held Nov. 9-13 in Tangerang City, Indonesia, officials of the Taiwan delegation said Wednesday.
They bagged one gold medal, two silvers and four bronzes in the 13th IMSO, which had Indonesian President Joko Widodo as the guest of honor during the opening ceremony.
Chung Chi-en from Shen Mei Elementary School in Keelung won the gold medal for mathematics exploration problems, while Wang Hui-shiang from Dongguang Elementary School in Kaohsiung and Chiang Hsin-jung from the bilingual department of National Experimental High School at the Hsinchu Science Park took silver medals in math and science, respectively.
Lu Chia-tse from the elementry department of National Experimental High School at the Hsinchu Science Park won a bronze medal in math, while Tsao Jou-hsuan, Nyuan Chuan-yung and Wu Kuang-jen from the bilingual department of the same school each obtained bronze in science.
Some 360 representatives from 22 countries and territories participated in the annual event -- Brunei, Bulgaria, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Tajikistan, Taiwan and Vietnam.
