The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) has been holding the Overseas Youth English Teaching Volunteer Service Program in July since 2006. The Program brings overseas youths to Taiwan to teach English in remote junior high and elementary schools, giving them a chance to see the beauty of Taiwan and experience the warmth of its people.
The program will be organized by the OCAC and the Hakka Affairs Council from July 1 to 29, 2017 and, roughly 420 volunteers will participate. The registration period is February 1-28.The prospectus and application form can be downloaded from the section Activities and Study Programs for Overseas Youth on the OCAC website www.ocac.gov.tw or the Program website www.aidsummer.net. After filling in the form, please submit it to the ROC representative office or Culture Center in the place of residence.

Being raised up in the US, Tiffany's Chinese is kind of rusty. However, she was very interested in exploring Taiwan. When she came back, her Chinese got much sharper. In the beginning, she was afraid of traveling abroad alone. After coming back from the AID program, she said she'd definitely love to go back and visit this beautiful island soon.
This volunteer program taught her to pay back to the community, to cherish what she owns, to be patient with kids, to discipline and encourage kids, to conquer her personal nerves, and to respect little black mosquitoes there.
Finally, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to those mentors in this program. I know some of them were working behind the scene but they all deserved the same credit. The AID program was not just for fun, lots of young volunteers' lives were changed by it. I believe they will pass on what they have learned and make an influence on their friends, family and even their next generations.
