On April 28, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held a meeting for 2017 Delegation of Overseas Hospitality Services Promoters for Taiwan Tourism. At the meeting, OCAC Minister Wu Hsin-hsing stated that the spending power of the people of Southeast Asia is increasing day by day and “it’s time” for promoting Taiwan tourism in the region.

The delegation was made up of 30 persons in charge or senior managers from travel business operators in 25 regions of 16 countries. They will visit places including Yilan, Hsinchu, Miaoli and Taichung during the stay in Taiwan.

The meeting was attended by personnel from the travel-related departments of 13 city/county governments who introduced their respective tourism highlights to the delegation. Wu said in his speech that the personnel present gave the meeting special significance in terms of promoting Taiwan tourism in support of the New Southbound policy.

He said that the financial capability of citizens in Southeast Asia is increasing and living standards have risen sharply in recent years. “It’s time” for introducing Taiwan’s quality tourism at affordable price to people in Southeast Asia to allow them to understand, become interested in, and then actually visit Taiwan, he said.

Wu went on to say that promoting Taiwan tourism requires joint efforts from various government departments, the private sector and the overseas communities. He sincerely expressed gratitude to these travel businesses for helping Taiwan attract overseas visitors and, in doing so, making a contribution to their homeland.
