Taipei, July 1 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen on Saturday outlined the work of the General Association of Chinese Culture (GACC) and expressed hope of showcasing Taiwanese culture to the world.
The GACC is organizing a presidential cultural award, a documentary film that focuses on local artisans, and a venue for exhibitions and speeches, said Tsai, who took over as head of the GACC in March, at an event in Taipei where she met with representatives of local cultural circles.
In addition, it is planning to resume its Fountain of Youth bimonthly magazine to showcase the achievements of Taiwan's film, music and theater sectors, she said.
"Showing Taiwan's culture to the world is what we expect to do in the future," Tsai said.
She noted that the GACC will also introduce the "2017 Art Truck Show Taiwan" program, with its first stop being Malaysia -- carrying out her administration's goal of improving ties with Southeast Asian countries.
The program involves the use of small trucks that have long been used as platforms for Taiwan's performing arts groups.
Founded in 1967 to promote the revival of Chinese culture and to counter China's Cultural Revolution, the association was headed by the incumbent president of the Republic of China until 2010, when former Premier Liu Chao-shiuan was elected to serve as its head.
Liu stepped down last November amid controversy surrounding the changing leadership of the organization.
