Taiwan pair runners-up in Yonex U.S. Open men's doubles

Anaheim, California, July 23 (CNA) Taiwan's Lu Ching-yao and Yang Po-han took second place in the men's doubles at the 2017 Yonex U.S. Open Badminton Championship on Sunday, losing to their Japanese opponents.

After coming from behind to take the first game 21-15, top seeds Lu and Yang, who were playing in their third final of the year, found themselves trailing behind second-seeded Japanese pair Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko in the second and ended losing 13-21.

The Taiwanese pair eventually lost a playoff game 13-21.

Earlier in the tournament, the World No. 16 Taiwanese men's pair trounced their British, South Korean, Vietnamese and Indian rivals before losing to the World No. 24 Japanese duo.

The total purse for the tournament, which was played July 19-23 at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena in Anaheim, California was US$120,000.
