Taipei, Sept. 30 (CNA) Jesuit priest Father George "Jerry" Martinson, who passed away in May was honored with a special contribution award Saturday at the 52nd Golden Bell Awards which was collected on his behalf by his brother Father Barry Martinson.
The ceremony was held at the National Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei where it elaborated on Jerry whom came to Taiwan at the age of 24 and loved the place so much that he was buried in Changhua.
Event organizers pointed out Jerry came to Taiwan in 1967 and started teaching at Fu Jen Catholic University and then later started his long tenure in media at Kuangchi Program Service.
Jerry used music, stories, drama and documentaries to project his love and positive influence, producing many programs on societal issues.
Jerry led the Kuangchi Program Service and was known as the cradle of television talents, contributing to the influence of Taiwan's television industry.
Jerry was a priest and also a media personality, using media to reach out and care for the needy and sending out the value of truth and goodness.
Barry collected the award on stage and said in his speech Jerry is continuing his love in heaven.
"He loves the Kuangchi Program Service and loves you all even more," he said.
Lin Fu-ti who was also honored at the ceremony with a lifetime achievement award, he produced about 100 drama series and has helped to cultivate many talents on and behind the screens.
At the age of 83, Lin still works and very much cares for the development of the industry.
