Taiwanese player finishes second on Asia junior golf tour

Taipei, Jan. 6 (CNA) Chen Wei-li, one of Taiwan's young rising star golfers, carded 4-over-76 in the final round of the Junior Golf Tour of Asia's (JGTA) Taiwan Junior Championship on Friday, finishing second in the male division with a tournament total of 220.

Chen also received the JGTA's "Heart of a Champion" award, which will allow him to go the United States this year to compete against some of the best junior golfers in the world.

According to the JGTA, the "Heart of a Champion" award is given to a player who stands out both on and off the golf course in terms of character, attitude and passion.

The championship title in the male division title was won by Tang Junyi of China, who scored 73-72-74 in all three rounds and finished with a total of 219.

In the Girls' Division, Ni Jana of China won the title with a total score of 222. Ni is currently ranked 173rd in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Rolex Ranking.

The JGTA is the governing body for junior golf tournaments in Asia-Pacific and helps junior golfers to pursue careers in the AJGA, at university and on the professional golf circuit.

The JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship was held at the National Golf Country Club in Miaoli County from January 2-5.
