Taipei, July 6 (CNA) President Tsai Ing-wen presented the 2018 President's Education Awards Friday in Taipei, praising the 56 recipients as warriors who worked hard to overcome challenges in life.

The student recipients ranged from 10-42 in age and came from different educational levels: elementary, junior and senior high schools and colleges.

During her speech, Tsai gave examples of students who overcame adversities including roller sports gold medalist Lin Chia-ching, who grew up in a single-parent family in Taoyuan's Chungli District.

Another example was Wang Chen-ling from Chiayi County's He Shun Elementary School who at a young age had to help on the family's farm, and has been certified as a young writer by Mandarin Daily News, Tsai said.

In addition, Tsai also cheered for award recipient World No. 1 women's badminton player Tai Tzu-ying, who is currently competing at the BLIBLI Indonesia Open 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Tai has worked hard and been an enthusiastic participant in public sporting events to give back to society, Tsai noted.

Every year, the President's Education Awards reminds the government how important it is to ensure all children have the opportunity to realize their full potential and overcome the obstacles they face, Tsai said.
