Taipei, Aug. 24 (CNA) Yang Yi-chen, a volleyball setter from Tainan, southern Taiwan, became the first Taiwanese player to play for a professional volleyball club in Italy after she was signed by Lardini Filottrano earlier this month.

With help from Federico Rampazzo, a former coach for Lardini Filottrano, the 26-year-old signed to the club, which belongs to the Italian Women's Volleyball League Serie A1, one of the most competitive professional leagues in women's volleyball in Italy.

Rampazzo, coach of Taiwan's national volleyball team from 2013 to 2014, had asked Yang if she was willing to continue her volleyball career abroad when she was a student at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), but she did not consider the option initially because of her studies.

She helped NTNU win the championship at Taiwan's University Volleyball League for seven straight years.

She was also on Taiwan's national team at the 2017 Summer Universiade in Taipei.

In addition to Yang, Koyomi Tominaga, a 29-year-old setter from Japan, was also signed as a member of the club earlier this month, according to the club's official website.
