Taipei, Aug. 24 (CNA) Taiwanese gymnast Tang Chia-hung beat out two Chinese rivals to snag gold Friday in the final artistic gymnastics event at the 2018 Asian Games, the horizontal bar.
Tang's routine earned a score of 14.725 points to fend off the challenge from Chinese gymnasts Sun Wei, who took silver with a score of 14.500, and Xiao Ruoteng, who won bronze with a score of 14.225.
The gold medal was Taiwan's best showing ever in an Asian Games horizontal bar event. It also gave Tang a second podium finish after capturing silver in the floor exercise on Thursday.
Also on Friday, Taiwanese gymnast Lee Chih-kai finished sixth in the parallel bars with a score of 14.025 points, well off the bronze medal tally of 14.850.
Lee, who won gold in his best event, the pommel horse, on Thursday, said he executed every complicated routine as well as he could at the Asian Games even though he didn't always come out on top.
"I challenged myself," he said, referring to the intensive training he did for the Asian Games over the past year.
The Taiwanese said he accomplished what he came out to do, and that he was happy with the results.
As of Friday evening, Taiwan ranked seventh on the medals table with six golds, seven silvers and 12 bronzes, according to the Asian Games' official website.
