Taipei, Oct. 5 (CNA) Taiwanese actor Roy Chiu, who starred in the comedy satire "The Gangs, the Oscars, and the Walking Dead," has won the Face of Asia Award at this year's Asia Star Awards in Busan, South Korea.
Chiu was the third Taiwanese to have received this annual award, according to a statement issued by the film production studio.
He follows actress Ivy Chen and actor Jasper Liu, who starred in the romantic movie "More than Blue".
Other awardees at the annual event included South Korean actress Lim Yoon-a, who starred in the movie drama EXIT, and Jung Woo-sung, a renowned Korean actor, director and producer who has won multiple film awards in his home country.
Chiu rose to prominence in 2011 after appearing in the Taiwanese dramas My Daughter and Waking Love Up.
In "The Gangs, the Oscars, and the Walking Dead," he plays a struggling movie producer who ends up working with his longtime friend for the local mob in order to repay their debts.
In the end, they finally score a breakthrough when their mob boss suddenly takes an interest in a movie script they worked on together on the side.
The comedy with a satirical twist, which premiered in Taiwanese theaters in 2018, is directed by director Kao Pin-chuan.
The 7th Asia Star Awards was held in Busan on Friday.
The annual film festival and awards showcase the efforts of struggling filmmakers from all over Asia and their filmmaking abilities.
It is sponsored by luxury brand "Chanel," organized by fashion magazine "Marie Claire," and hosted by the Busan International Film Festival.
