Taipei, Jan. 15 (CNA) The 2020 Yuejin Lantern Festival is set to start Saturday in Tainan, featuring more than 50 eye-catching light installations by local and foreign artists in the city's old Yanshuei District, according to Tainan's Cultural Affairs Bureau Wednesday.
The annual festival will take place around historic Yuejin Harbor, which was one of Taiwan's largest trading hubs during the Qing dynasty from 1644-1911.
Participating works will be showcased at various locations, including on the canal, riverbanks and four bridges in the area, the bureau said.
This year's festival will feature lantern installations by several local art groups, including student contributors as well as foreign artists from the Netherlands and Japan.
Among the highlights, Dutch artist Ralf Westerhof will present "Drawn in Light," a six-meter illuminating steel structure that was showcased at the Amsterdam Light Festival last November.
Meanwhile, Yasuhiro Chida of Japan will present his "Broken 6," a large box-like structure that allows visitors to view the special light effects inside.
According to the cultural bureau, this year's festival, which will be held until Feb. 16, will be the most stunning since the event was started in 2010.
