Taipei, March 9 (CNA) Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting beat 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist Monday to advance to the semifinals of the Asia/Oceania Olympic Boxing Qualification event in Jordan, earning herself a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The 24-year old from New Taipei, who is competing in the featherweight category (54kg-57kg), easily outclassed Yin Junhua of China 5-0 in a quarterfinal match held at the Prince Hamzah Sport Hall in Amman.

The victory makes Lin the second Taiwanese female boxer to clinch a berth in Tokyo in the ongoing qualifiers following Chen Nien-chin, who won the ticket in the women's welterweight (64kg-69kg) category Sunday.

One of Taiwan's top female boxers, Lin won a gold medal in the bantamweight (54kg) division in the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships and a gold in the featherweight (57kg) division in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships.

The qualification tournament is being held March 3-11 in Jordan, after being rescheduled from Feb. 3-14 in Wuhan, China due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.
