Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) Miloš Vystrčil, president of the Senate of the Czech Republic, said Thursday that he will lead a delegation to Taiwan later this month and hopes to promote stronger economic and technological cooperation between the two countries.

In an interview with the Central News Agency, Taiwan's national wire service, the leader of the upper house of the Czech parliament said that common values such as freedom, democracy and national sovereignty will be on his agenda when he holds talks with Taiwan politicians, including President Tsai Ing-wen and You Si-kun, speaker of Taiwan's legislature.

During the interview, Vystrčil emphasized the importance of those values, which he described as "the most important foundation" of nation-building.

The Czech parliamentarian said the two countries have followed a similar path in their transition to democracy and he is pleased to "finally get a chance to see the people of Taiwan, who I think have achieved a great success."

In the area of technical cooperation, Vystrčil said he expects to discuss topics such as artificial intelligence, space research and modern waste recycling. Some on the 90-person delegation would also like to learn from Taiwan's experience in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.

The delegation is scheduled to leave Prague on Aug. 29 on a chartered flight for Taipei, where Vystrčil, business leaders, scientists and other members of the Czech Senate will stay until Sept. 4.

Vystrčil, 59, became president of the senate on Feb. 19, about a month after his predecessor Jaroslav Kubera passed away just days before a planned visit to Taiwan.
