Taipei, Aug. 20 (CNA) Rock Hsu , founder of the electronics conglomerate Kinpo Group who also serves as vice chairman of the semi-official Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), has been assigned by President Tsai Ing-wen as the foundation's acting chairman, the Presidential Office said Thursday.

Hsu will temporarily fill the vacancy left by David Lee, who was appointed secretary-general of the Presidential Office earlier this month.

The personnel appointment is set to be confirmed at an extraordinary board meeting of the SEF on Aug. 28, Presidential Office spokesperson Xavier Chang said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Chan Chih-hung, the head of President Tsai's private office, will take over as SEF vice chairman and secretary-general, Chang said.

The SEF is an intermediary organization authorized by the Taiwan government to handle exchanges and negotiations with China in the absence of official ties.
