
Taipei, Nov. 9 (CNA) The Uni-President Lions scored a major victory Sunday when it won its 10th Taiwan Series baseball championship title, finishing 4-3 in seven games against the CTBC Brothers in the post-season playoffs.
The Lions took the series on back-to-back wins in games five, six and seven after falling behind on a 1-3 deficit in the first four games.
It has been seven years since the team won the series title, following its victories in 1991, 1995-96, 2000, 2007-9, 2011 and 2013.
"The victory was a confidence boost," said team manager Lin Yueh-ping , who won his first series title with the Uni-President Lions that day.
"We were seen as the underdog from the very beginning, but managed to come through in the end," Lin said.
The final game on Sunday was played in front of 15,600 fans in Taichung.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the game went to the Lions' infielder Chen Chie-hsien, while his teammate Pan Wu-Hsiung was awarded the Taiwan Series MVP.
The Taiwan Series is the championship series of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), the top-tier professional baseball league in Taiwan, which currently consists of four teams.
The post-season playoffs usually take place in October after the regular season.
