Taipei, Nov. 28 (CNA) China Motor Corp. (CMC), which has entered the fray of electric scooters beyond its car business, has formed an alliance led by Gogoro, Taiwan's major electric scooter brand.
CMC, which is under the Taiwan-based auto conglomerate Yulon Group -- which rolls out its own electric scooters under the brand of eMOVING -- has joined the Powered By Gogoro Network (PBGN), making eMOVING the fifth partner of the alliance following Yamaha, Aeonmotor, PGO and eReady.
In a ceremony held earlier this week to celebrate eMOVING joining the PBGN, Chen Chao-wen (陳昭文), president of CMC, said the brand will introduce models using batteries on the model provided by the battery-exchange mechanism under the PBGN at the end of 2021.
Chen said eMOVING will continue to sell its existing models using its self-developed batteries in a bid to provide consumers with more options when they choose to purchase an electric scooter.
Currently, eMOVING provides models such as the iE125, Shine and Bobe.
In addition, Chen said, eMOVING will reinforce and diversify its recharging solutions, including quick recharging and battery exchanges, to provide consumers with comprehensive services.
According to local media reports, CMC sells about 6,000 eMOVING electric scooters per year. Market analysts said the move to take part in the PBGN is expected to help eMOVING gain a higher market share.
By joining the PBGN, eMOVING is expected to add almost 2,000 battery exchange stations all over Taiwan, giving the brand a more comprehensive battery exchange network, analysts said.
CMC did not rule out the possibility of seeking other partnerships to introduce more services to consumers in the future.
According to Gogoro, the PBGN is the world's biggest electric battery-swapping platform.
