Taipei, June 28 (CNA) Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, people with a Taiwanese Citizen Digital Certificate card can now apply online to register personal or household records or documents, such as the loss of a national identification card, the Ministry of the Interior said Monday.

The identity documents for persons and households to register include birth guardianship, death, birthplace, moving out of the country and indigenous person status, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, people with a Digital Citizen Certificate, can also apply online to register a divorce, child adoption/adoption termination and acknowledgement of parentage after receiving a court decree.

According to Taiwan's Household Registration Act, applications for changes to household registration should be made within 30 days of the changes taking place or being ascertained.

However, birth registration must be made within 60 days. Those failing to apply for registration within the legal time shall be fined between NT$300 (US$10.74) and NT$900.

However, with disease prevention and control measures introduced under the Level 3 COVID-19 alert, which will be in place until July 12, people have been advised to stay at home other than for essential reasons, the ministry said, urging the public to register in person only after the alert is lifted unless absolutely necessary.

Given the current disease containment protocols, people who fail to register within the legally provided time frame will be exempted from fines while Level 3 restrictions remain in place, the ministry added.
