Taiwan reports 18 new COVID-19 cases, zero deaths

Taipei, July 29 (CNA) Taiwan on Thursday reported 18 new cases of COVID-19 -- 16 transmitted domestically and two contracted overseas -- and zero deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Of the domestic cases, seven were reported in New Taipei, five in Taipei, two in Kaohsiung and one each in Taoyuan and Chiayi.

The new cases bring the total in the country to 15,637, of which 14,158 are domestic infections reported since May 15, when the country first recorded more than 100 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

To date, 787 people have died of COVID-19 in Taiwan, including 775 since May 15.
