Taipei, Aug. 17 (CNA) The Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei (ISECO) recently organized two very successful free online Gaga "movement language" classes in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
The classes were held in cooperation with the National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipei and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) on Aug. 4 and Aug. 11, according to a press statement from ISECO.
During the classes, participants danced at their homes, guided by Hsiang Hsin-yi (項馨儀), a Taiwanese dancer and Gaga teacher who currently lives in Israel, ISECO said.
Galit Cohen Caspi, ISECO's head of public affairs, was quoted in the office's statement as saying that the office was happy to work with the two institutions and plans to hold more Gaga classes for other audiences in Taiwan.
According to ISECO, Gaga is a "movement language" developed by Ohad Naharin, the former artistic director of the renowned Israeli Batsheva Dance Company.
A Gaga class is based on in-depth attunement to the body and the physiological senses. They are predicated on a deep activation of the body and physical sensations, ISECO said.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, Gaga classes have been offered online to audiences including professional dancers and general public around the globe, it added.
In 2020, ISECO also co-organized a Gaga class with National Taiwan University of the Arts, helping students from the dance department to find their inner groove and increase awareness throughout their entire bodies, the office said.
