Fast Fluency International Tutoring Program(FFITP), sponsored by Wang & Wu Foundation in tandem with Overseas Community Affairs Council's support, held their second ever program introduction seminar for newly accepted tutors. Twenty-nine of the thirty tutors participated in the interactive seminar on August 28th. FFITP's mission is to provide high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area with opportunities to develop comprehensive English conversation curriculum, tutor elementary and high school students in Taiwan. This not only builds leadership, confidence, and speaking skills, but also lets tutors have a unique experience tutoring Taiwanese students regularly during the school year.

The seminar was kickstarted with an introduction of program administration, which consists of Academic Deans Katy Wu and Julian Lung, Dean of Student Affairs Sandra Su, Teachers Ashley Lin and Nancy Lin, Lead Student Teacher Audrey Wang, Dean of Literature Research Dr. Albert Wang, and Director of Public Affairs Emma Wang.

Seminar host Sandra Su, walked students through the responsibilities and rules that all tutors must follow for the safety of both tutors and Taiwanese students. At the end of the seminar, everyone chuckled when administrators asked if anyone had questions. One tutor said that they “learned a lot in the Training class, and [they are] looking forward to [the] upcoming preparation and classes.”

Academic Dean Katy told us that "this year's program will be a step forward in difficulty, as Catholic Daren Girls' High School in Neihu District, Taipei City, Taiwan, has a reading based curriculum. Our tutors here will have to adapt their usual way of preparing for classes to accommodate for this difference.”

Another challenge for the program administration is that not only did the number of tutors who were accepted into the program more than double since last school year, the Taiwanese students who will benefit from the program has also doubled from around fifty to over one hundred but to ensure ease of communication, Lead Student Teacher Audrey Wang invited all program tutors and administrators to join an online server, where tutors in charge of different Taiwanese schools would be able to communicate in separate channels. Dean of Literature Research Dr. Albert Wang is excited for the growth of the program, and as the founder of Wang & Wu Foundation, he hopes that the program will achieve even greater heights in its second year of operation.

Wishing the best of luck to all program tutors! Hopefully, Taiwanese students will benefit from sessions with FFITP tutors and be more fluent in English by the time the program concludes this school year.
