Taipei, Sept. 17 (CNA) Ten Chinese military planes flew into Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Friday as Taiwan concluded its annual Han Kuang wargames held this week, according to the Ministry of National Defense.

Six J-16 and two J-11 fighter jets entered the airspace between Taiwan and the Dongshan Islands, while one Y-8 reconnaissance plane and one Y-8 anti-submarine warfare plane flew to the southeast of Taiwan before turning back, according to a report released Friday by the ministry.

The Taiwan Air Force responded by scrambling planes to monitor the Chinese aircraft, issuing radio warnings, and mobilizing air defense assets -- their standard practice in responding to these intrusions.

Friday was the fifteenth consecutive day of ADIZ intrusions from Chinese planes, with Taiwan concluding its annual Han Kuang military drills that had begun on Monday, the ministry's data showed.

The highest number of Chinese aircraft to have entered Taiwan's ADIZ in a day was 28, which was reported on June 15, while up to 19 planes were recorded on Sept. 5. The ministry set up a dedicated section on its website on Sept. 17, 2020 to release reports of Chinese military planes' intrusion.

This year, Taiwan began the Han Kuang drills on Monday by mobilizing fighter jets stationed in the western part of the island to fly to the eastern part.

On Wednesday, a military aircraft emergency landing and take-off drill was held on a standard highway in Pingtung County for the first time, as part of a scenario in which an air base in the county had been attacked.

On the last day of the Han Kuang exercises on Friday, the Air Force tested the counterstrike capabilities of the locally-built Indigenous Defense Fighter jets, while the Navy's Tian Dan, a Cheng Kung-class guided-missile frigate, was deployed to conduct surveillance and reconnaissance missions alongside other naval vessels.
