August export orders hit new high for the month

Taipei, Sept. 24 (CNA) The value of export orders placed by foreign companies with Taiwanese businesses in August reached US$53.5 billion, a record high for the month, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) reported on Friday.

The figure meant Taiwan had seen export growth for 18 consecutive months and represented a year-on-year increase in exports of 17.6 percent, the MOEA said in a statement.

However, on a month-on-month basis, the export orders received by Taiwan businesses in August fell by 3.2 percent from July, according to data released by the MOEA's Department of Statistics.

The MOEA attributed the growth to the global economic recovery, and strong demand for terminal devices and technology gadgets.

In the first eight months of 2021, export orders registered a historic high of US$418.73 billion, up 33.5 percent from a year earlier, the highest annual growth for the same period since 2011, the MOEA figures showed.
