The 2021 R.O.C. (Taiwan) National Day celebrations of Houston’s overseas community have begun. In order to raise Taiwan’s profile, on September 24 the Houston National Day Preparatory Committee and Taiwan Hotel-Motel Association of Greater Houston (THMAGH) went to the City of Richmond to take part in the parade of the Fort Bend County Fair which has an 85-year history.
On the day, the National Day Preparatory Committee and THMAGH prepared an old-time horse-drawn carriage which was decorated by participating overseas community leaders in the flags of the US and Taiwan and banners from the Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Houston, the Preparatory Committee, the THMAGH and attracted the gaze of people from mainstream society who were in attendance. Cultural guides from the Culture Center also took the rare chance to hand out the Splendor of Taiwan cultural guide leaflet, badges with the R.O.C. (Taiwan) flag and other souvenirs, sharing the joy of National Day with local people and hoping that they can one day come back to promote Taiwanese culture to locals.
