Taipei, Dec. 1 (CNA) Poland's former ambassador to Japan, Cyryl Kozaczewski, has officially assumed office as his country's new top envoy to Taiwan, the Polish representative office in Taipei said Wednesday.

Kozaczewski is a seasoned diplomat with more than 25 years of experience in the field, and his most recent position before coming to Taipei was political director in the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the Polish Office in Taipei.

He also served in diplomatic posts at the Polish Embassy in Seoul and the Permanent Representation of Poland to NATO in Brussels, said the office, which represents Polish interests in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic ties.

From 2012 to 2016, Kozaczewski was the Polish ambassador to Japan and also represented NATO there as official point of contact, the office said in a press release.

Meanwhile, the New Zealand Commerce and Industry Office announced Tuesday that Mark Pearson has been appointed as its new director.

Pearson will officially assume position in January 2022, said the office, which functions as the de facto New Zealand embassy in Taiwan.

Pearson joined the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1988, after multiple postings at the New Zealand embassies in Tokyo and Seoul, where he served as deputy head of the diplomatic missions there, the office said.

He has also worked on regional economic and political issues in APEC and in ASEAN-related groupings, including the ASEAN Regional Forum, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the East Asia Summit, and was involved in disarmament and non-proliferation efforts, according to the office.

Prior to his assignment to Taipei, Pearson was managing outreach and partnerships at APEC New Zealand, the office said.

He speaks Japanese and Korean, and has a reading knowledge of Chinese, it added.
