Overseas compatriot youth from Paraguay gathered at Asociacion China in Ciudad del Este on November 27 to take part in a culinary exchange exhibition organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC). Abel Chang showed off a traditional Brazilian dish, then teacher Mercedes showed students how to make basic handmade chocolate; the attending youth rolled up their sleeves, put on aprons and experienced the fun of making things by hand. To begin, Abel Chang showed students how to make the traditional Brazilian dish Arroz Carreteiro, a dish that originated in southwest Brazil. It is said to have been created by horse cart drivers who cooked leftover barbecued meat with rice and other ingredients.
Then, teacher Mercedes from Asunción showed everyone how to make chocolate by hand; she first introduced the ingredients, tools and how they are used. She also pointed out matters for attention when melting chocolate in a pot over water and in a microwave oven and showed students how to avoid bubbles in the molds.
