Taipei, Jan. 13 (CNA) Taiwan recorded 121,254 cancer diagnoses in 2019, 5,123 more than in 2018, according to figures released by the Health Promotion Administration (HPA) Thursday.

The increase on 2018's 116,131 meant one cancer diagnosis was made every 4 minutes and 20 seconds on average in 2019, with the HPA attributing the rise to unhealthy lifestyles and Taiwan's aging population.

According to the report, the median age for a cancer diagnosis was 64 years, with the HPA also noting that the number of cancer patients by age-standardized incidence rate was 345.4 for every 100,000 men -- a 4.1 increase compared with 2018 -- and 292.7 in every 100,000 women -- a year-over-year increase of eight.

Colorectal cancer topped the list of most common cancers for the 14th consecutive year, with lung cancer, breast cancer, liver cancer, oral cancer, prostate cancer, thyroid cancer, skin cancer, stomach cancer, and endometrial cancer rounding out the top 10.

Split by sex, 64,109 of 2019's 121,254 diagnoses were male and 57,145 were female.

Colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and oral cancer were the most common types of cancer among males, with breast cancer, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer the three most common types among females.
