On February 5th, the Jersey Shore Chinese School (JSCS) and Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) held a unique virtual Lunar New Year Celebration. Due to the severe epidemic in New Jersey, JSCS did not host an in-person celebration. More than 100 teachers, students, parents, and VIP guests participated enthusiastically the online celebration program. In addition to the wonderful performances of language classes and cultural classes, there were also raffles for both adults and children.
The "Opening Slide Show" gathers various pictures of activities held at JSCS this school year, such as the "NJ Confucius Memorial Ceremony" and "NJ Double Ten Flag Raising Ceremony", as well as the photos of various cultural classes. Then the Lion Dance Team kicked off. With the sound of the sonorous and powerful drums, the lion dance team was magnificent and full of vigor! After the "Lucky Lions", 30 VIP guests, including the director of Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY), Forrest Chen, the deputy director of TECO-NY, Weiting Lin, the chairman of the Association of New Jersey Chinese Schools (ANJCS), Nelson Tai, New Jersey Assemblywoman, Vicky Flynn, Mayor of Holmdel Greg Buontempo, and Holmdel School district Board of Education members. Forrest Chen introduced the newly established TCML in JSCS. More than 45 TCML have been established all over the world. Hope everyone can come to learn Mandarin and Taiwanese culture.
The JSCS principal, I-Chung Young and the TCML director, Cindy Chiang, gave red envelopes to the dragon dance team andwished everyone good luck in the Year of the Tiger. TCML students sang“Gongxi, Gongxi”to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The hosts of the show, Lisa Albero and Karen Chang, introduced all the performances, including the dance class's "New Year Dance", the yo-yo class's "Rotating Universe", as well as the demonstrations of the yoga class and self-defense class. The language class has wonderful programs such as "Two Tigers", "Aunt Tiger", "Shulaibao Tongue Twister", "Poetry Recitation" and "New Year's Legends and Customs". At the end of the program, JSCS principal I-Chung Young drew the final cash prize, and everyone greeted each other to welcome the coming of the Golden Tiger Year.
