Taipei, April 19 (CNA) A delegation led by Minister without Portfolio John Deng (鄧振中) will take part in June's SelectUSA Investment Summit, an Executive Yuan official said Tuesday.
The summit, an annual event sponsored by the U.S. Department of Commerce that focuses on facilitating job-creating investment in the United States, will be held in Maryland from June 26 to 29.
A slew of Taiwan-based firms, in particular those in the semi-conductor and 5G sectors, are expected to attend the summit, alongside U.S. business representatives and federal-and-state-level government officials.
These two sectors were previously highlighted during the second Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue, which was held virtually in November last year.
During the government-level summit, officials from both countries agreed to deepen cooperation on 5G, cybersecurity, and the free flow of information to create a favorable environment for building an open radio access network.
The Executive Yuan official, who preferred not to be named, told CNA that although the list of Taiwanese participants had not yet been finalized, the American Institute in Taiwan, the U.S.' de facto embassy, had already sent out invites to several heavyweight government officials, including National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫).
According to the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Promotion Office under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, SelectUSA has drawn US$59 billion in direct investment to the U.S., creating 49,000 jobs there since its inception.
Last year, 28 U.S. state governors and eight federal government officials took part in the SelectUSA Investment Summit.
