Taipei, April 24 (CNA) The North America Taiwanese Women's Association (NATWA) is playing an important role in facilitating exchanges between Taiwanese citizens and people living on the continent, Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said Sunday as she spoke during the association's annual convention.
In a video address, Tsai thanked the NATWA for promoting Taiwan in North America and said she is looking forward to more activities from the association in the fields of economy, society and culture.
Established in 1988 with more than 1,000 members in America and Canada, the NATWA is a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing women's dignity, contributing to democratic development in Taiwan, as well as networking with women's organizations worldwide.
Tsai said Taiwan has received increasing global recognition particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it reached out to North American countries with donations and medical supplies.
With Taiwan-U.S. relations also improving, Tsai said, she hoped the association will bring about more exchanges between the two sides.
