Taiwan archers defeat Italy to bag recurve men's team archery gold

Taipei, April 24 (CNA) The Taiwan men's archery team on Sunday defeated their Italian counterparts in Antalya, Turkey, during the final of the Hyundai Archery World Cup Stage 1 to win the gold medal for the recurve men's team event.

The Chinese Taipei men's team, consisting of Olympians Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞) and Wei Chun-heng (魏均珩), as well as Su Yu-yang (蘇于洋), who took silver with his teammates at the recurve cadet men's team event during the 2019 World Archery Youth Championships, were seeded second at the competition, taking them directly into the last 16.

Taiwan first defeated Switzerland, followed by the United States and the Netherlands in the semifinals before squaring off against Italy in the final.

In the final, Taiwan defeated Italy 6:0 to take home the gold, while the Netherlands won the bronze.

The Taiwanese archers totaled 10 bullseyes in the final.

In addition to the gold medal winning performance by the Taiwanese men's recurve bow team, Olympian Lei Chien-ying (雷千瑩) earlier led archers Peng Chia-mao (彭家楙) and Kuo Tzu-ying (郭紫穎) as they defeated Italy's women archers on April 21 to win the recurve women's team bronze medal.
