Taipei, May 23 (CNA) Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) Chairman James Huang (黃志芳) said Monday that he was optimistic about the future of the global hi-tech business, given the growing demand in some flourishing sectors.

"The 5G, artificial intelligence and metaverse sectors are expected to create abundant business opportunities in the second half of the year, despite the concerns over inventories of computer/communication products, amid supply chain disruptions caused by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war," Huang said at a news conference, in the lead-up to Tuesday's opening of COMPUTEX 2022.

Organized jointly by TAITRA and the Taipei Computer Association, COMPUTEX 2022 will resume its physical exhibition this year at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, May 24-27, after a hiatus of three years, he said.

The COMPUTEX 2022 exhibits will feature diverse metaverse applications and immersive experience zones for visitors, while many companies will display gadgets related to the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) and high performance computing, which are expected to be the dominant trends in the technology industry in the coming months, he said.

Alongside that exhibition, another show, COMPUTER CYBERWORLD, will be held May 24-June 30, Huang said, adding that some 400 foreign and local companies will showcase their products at 1,000 booths at the two trade fairs.

A special online platform has also been set up to help connect an estimated 3,000 overseas buyers to Taiwanese suppliers, he said.

Meanwhile, CEOs and other high-ranking executives from major international tech companies such as AMD, Micron and NXP Semiconductors are scheduled to give keynote speeches at an event titled COMPUTEX CEO Keynote, and many of them will share the latest tech trends at the COMPUTEX Forum, according to Huang.
