Taiwan mission in Czechia plans to establish cultural section

Taipei, June 16 (CNA) The Ministry of Culture (MOC) said Thursday that it plans to establish a cultural section under Taiwan's representative office in the Czech Republic (Czechia) to promote bilateral cultural exchanges.

A cultural section under the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Prague will be set up next year and be headed by a ministry envoy, Culture Minister Lee Yung-te (李永得), who is on an European tour, said during his meeting with Czech parliament speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová in Prague on Wednesday, the MOC said in a press statement.

Lee noted that the section will seek to further Taiwan's cultural links with the Czech Republic and the neighboring central and eastern European nations, the statement said.

According to the statement, Adamová said she would provide the utmost support for the planned section in the hope of boosting cultural exchanges between the two sides.

The MOC said the proposal to establish a cultural section has been approved by the Czech government.

In addition to meeting with the Czech parliament speaker, Lee also met with Miloš Vystrčil, president of the Czech Senate, and Michal Lukeš, director of the National Museum in Prague, the MOC said.

Lee began his eight-day European tour in Germany on June 13 before traveling to Czechia the next evening. He will head to France after wrapping up his visit in Prague, the MOC said.
