Lithuanian delegation visits NTMoFA to build bilateral relationship through art

To promote art exchanges between Taiwan and Lithuania, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) launched two exhibitions "Uncoverings: The Search for Identity in Lithuanian Photography" and "Covered Reality: Archival Orientation and Identity in Taiwanese Contemporary Photography" on April 9. Since their opening, both exhibitions have garnered praise and attention through the art exchanges and dialogues between Taiwan and Lithuania.

Rasa Bubelienė (布蓓連內), Deputy Director of Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania led a 10-person delegation to visit the photography exhibitions on June 27 and was given a tour by the director of NTMoFA Liang Yung-fei (梁永斐). Director Liang stated that NTMofA and the Lithuanian National Museum of Art (LNDM) both launched a thematic exhibition, using photography as a medium of art, and initiated exchanges through the exhibitions.

"Uncoverings: The Search for Identity in Lithuanian Photography" presents 87 works by 21 artists, showing the history and the transformation of photography in Lithuania from the 1950s until now in chronological order. Viewers will be able to find out more about Lithuanian art and also learn about its culture and history, and then look back at Taiwanese photography and cultural identity. "Covered Reality: Archival Orientation and Identity in Taiwanese Contemporary Photography," which was curated by NTMoFA, invited young artists that resonated with the theme to participate in the exhibition. It features the photographic and mixed media artworks of 15 artists, including important works of Taiwan contemporary photography since 1990.

Both exhibitions will be displayed at the National Center of Photography and Images in Taipei this September after the exhibition at NTMoFA ends on July 3. NTMoFA hopes that through the exchange and dialogue, the two nations can develop more opportunities for bilateral art and culture exchanges in the future.
