Taipei, July 2 (CNA) Residents of Guanxin Village (關新里) in Hsinchu City recorded the highest average annual household income among villagers throughout the country in 2020, maintaining the top ranking in terms of wealth, according to the Ministry of Finance (MOF).
The 2020 income tax statistics, released earlier this week, showed that the average annual household income in Guanxin was over NT$3 million (US$100,671), the MOF said.
The income tax data, which covered some 6.46 million households in Taiwan, meant that Guanxin has retained its ranking as the richest village in the country, the ministry said.
Located in the city's East District, Guanxin is home to many tech professionals who work in the nearby Hsinchu Science Park, where multiple profitable Taiwanese tech heavyweights such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) have bases.
In the village wealth rankings, Yongfu in Taipei's Shilin District was second with an average annual household income of NT$2.854 million, followed by Zili in Kaohsiung's Zuoying District (NT$2.707 million), Zhongxin in Hsinchu's Chubei City (NT$2.393 million), and Tongping also in Chubei (NT$2.378 million), the MOF said.
According to observers, the high household income in Zhongxin and Tongping villages also reflected their proximity to the Hsinchu Science Park.
Meanwhile, business entrepreneurs have been moving to Yongfu since the completion of several high rise residential complexes there, which has boosted its average household income, observers said.
In Zili, the ranking was based on the only two household incomes that were reported in 2020, according to the MOF.
In terms of median household income, Guanxin Village topped the rankings with NT$2.492 million, while that of Yongfu Village was only NT$658,000, in contrast to its high average household income, indicating a large wealth gap, the ministry said.
The city rankings, meanwhile, put Hsinchu City at the top in terms of average annual household income, which was NT$1.127 million in 2020, while Taipei was second with NT$1.068 million, followed by Hsinchu County (NT$1.004 million), the MOF data showed.
As for average household wages, the MOF said, Hsinchu City was also at the top, with NT$900,000, ahead of Hsinchu County (NT$817,000), and Taipei (NT$748,000).
Taipei, however, topped the other cities throughout the country in terms of interest income, rent income, royalties, stock dividends, and income from property transactions and business, the data showed.
