On July 30, Mayor Ko Wen-je and Mayoress Chen Pei-chi attended the 2022 Dadaocheng Chinese Valentine’s Festival to watch the fireworks up close and enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of the event. The couple also danced to the melodies of Cyndi Wang’s “Honey” on stage.

During his address, the mayor pointed out that the inaugural Dadaocheng Chinese Valentine’s Festival was held in 2005. Over the past 18 years, the event celebrates Chinese Valentine’s Day (Qixi) with music and fireworks. However, due to the pandemic, last year’s event limited the maximum number of attendees to 3,000. Fortunately, restrictions have been eased this year, so there is no more need for admission lottery or a limit on revelers allowed into the venue. He hopes everyone will have a great time at the festival under the safest conditions.

Ko pointed out that Taipei City Government accepted the invitation from Daegu City in South Korea to set up shop at the Daegu Chimac Festival in July. In exchange, there are stalls at the venue this year operated by merchants from Taipei’s sister city.

He also took the opportunity to promote upcoming events organized by the city government to the audience, including the 2022 Taipei Expo in August and the Taiwan Lantern Festival in Taipei in February, 2023.

Earlier in the afternoon, the mayor and his wife took part in a tour of the Dadaocheng neighborhood, stopping at locations spanning historical monuments to businesses. They also made mullet roe dishes at the renowned Lee’s Sun, as well as trying out the store’s award-winning mullet roe ice cream.
