On the last stop of her North American tour, Overseas Community Affairs Council, ROC (Taiwan) (OCAC) Deputy Minister Hsu Chia-Ching visited Vancouver where she participated in "overseas compatriot situation discussion" with around 100 members of the overseas community.

Deputy Minister Hsu was the first senior Taiwan government official to visit Canada since the outbreak of the pandemic.  After arriving in Montreal, Quebec on June 16, she then went to Ottawa and Toronto, and Vancouver was the last stop.  On June 21, she engaged in lively exchange with members of the Greater Vancouver overseas community through the arrangement of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Vancouver.

Deputy Minister Hsu first awarded the Hai-Hwa Medal of OCAC to Paul F Chow, Senior Adviser of OCAC, now aged over 80 years old in thanks for his long-term support for Taiwan government and overseas community activities.

In her speech, Deputy Minister Hsu said that the Senior Advisor Chow has long been involved in overseas community affairs and has made a big effort to show patriotic feelings.  In early days, he attended to ROC National Day celebrations and, from 1983, was an enthusiastic participant in the planning of National Day celebrations, not only showing his support for the ROC in action, but bringing together overseas compatriots in Victoria and making a great contribution.

Paul F Chow said to the Central News Agency that "My father was one of the first graduating class of Whampoa Military Academy.  Although my father and I have never lived in Taiwan, I go back to visit and see relatives and feel a strong emotional connection to it.” The atmosphere was warm and touching, the attending relatives and overseas community groups basking in reflected glory.
