Taipei, Sept. 16 (CNA) Budget airline Scoot will resume direct flights to Seoul and Hokkaido from Taiwan's main airport in Taoyuan starting from the end of October, to meet increased demand for air travel, the airline announced Friday.

Flights to the South Korean capital will start on Oct. 30 with one roundtrip flight every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, Scoot said in a press release.

The flights, which will use a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, will leave Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 6:10 p.m. and arrive in Seoul's Incheon International Airport at 9:35 p.m., with the return flight departing South Korea at 10:35 p.m. and arriving in Taiwan at 12:25 a.m., the carrier said.

Meanwhile, flights from Taoyuan airport to New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, set to begin on Nov. 1 also using the 787 Dreamliner, will take off at 11:25 a.m. every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and arrive in Japan at 4:05 p.m.

The return flight will leave Japan's second-largest island at 5:35 p.m. and arrive in Taoyuan at 9:20 p.m.

In the press release, the Singapore-based budget carrier Scoot also said it will add flights to its two existing routes connecting Taoyuan to Tokyo and Singapore starting Oct. 30, bringing the weekly number of flights it operates out of Taiwan to 33.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Scoot said it had operated 68 flights a week from Taiwan, linking Taoyuan airport with Singapore, Tokyo, Hokkaido and Seoul, and Kaohsiung International Airport with Singapore and Osaka.

According to Scoot, the company will mark its 10th anniversary of its debut in Taiwan on Sept. 18.
